Krishna is now walking without the aid of a walking frame!
Two weeks before the Nepal earthquake the Nestling Trust rescued Krishna, a little boy unable to use arms and legs, and without parents, he was kept tied to verandah for his own safety whilst his grandfather went out to work to buy food. He has now been at SERC school for children with disabilities in Kathmandu for a year. Determined and happy as the day is long, SERC say he is their star pupil. Our heartfelt thanks to all SERC staff for their devoted care The Nestling Trust working with our partner NGO Himshikhara, funded a health education initiative bringing Health Education to the remote villages around Gulmi. It was to run from from April '16 to September'16 targeting children in secondary schools as well as the village communities.
Ramu Pandey who studied health education in Nepal as well as the UK, taught pupils and their teachers, women's health workers and village community groups, subjects which included hygiene, nutrition, sexual health, contraception, drugs and alcohol. The programme was well received by schools and communities who were eager to learn On 10th May '15, Sue and Bijen visited Marbu the village where the Nestling Trust has been supporting a health clinic for the past year and where the Dental Camp took place at the beginning of April. Every house had damage but many were in ruins and the secondary school was flattened - thankfully no children were inside. The courage and resilience of the Nepali people shone in their faces as the men of the village showed four bamboo and tin houses they had already completed just two weeks after the earthquake. Two days later the second earthquake struck Nepal and Marbu was in the epicentre - we have heard the remaining houses are now also reduced to rubble. The Nestling Trust will continue to help and support the villagers of Marbu.

Meet Krishna, a three year old boy from Marbu, unable to talk, or use arms and legs. The story was harrowing - Krishna was living with his grandfather, no mother or father to care for him, he was alone all day, tied to a veranda for his safety while his grandfather went out to work to earn money for food. Now with the help of the Nestling Trust and his grandfather's blessing, he has come to Kathmandu Kanti Children's Hospital this week, where his condition is being investigated and assessed. He will be given the necessary treatment and therapies to maximise his chances of improvement. Dental Camp in Marbu!! Hooray it has happened!!
This village in the mountainous region of Dolakha, where dental care has never been given before, 500 children, plus some adults actually suffering from dental pain, have received dental checks, treatment, and taught how to look after their teeth. Children, parents, teachers and women volunteer health assistants have also been given education into the reasons for dental care and hygiene and given the opportunity to practice cor...rect hand washing technique and the right way to brush their teeth. Donated toothbrushes and toothpaste were distributed to everyone. The Nestling Trust would like to thank Bikram Malar and Kantipur Dental College for their enthusiasm, determination and hard work in making this event possible. Gales, thunder and lightning greeted the team as they arrived in the village high in the mountains but this never dampened their spirits. Thankfully each day was hot and sunny so families were able to trek from the far outlying areas. Check out the photos. Nepal. www.nestlingtrust.co.uk
To receive medical care villagers no longer have to trek down the mountain tracks carrying sick patients in wicker baskets on their backs. The Nestling Trust is working with the district health office to provide basic healthcare and health education in this remote area. Please support us to extend the care we can offer by going to My Donate on our website. Subash Siwakoti, trustee of the Nestling Trust, www.nestlingtrust.co.uk, visited the Marbu Clinic Health Initiative in the mountainous region of Dolakha, mid eastern Nepal. The Nestling Trust has been supporting this initiative which provides healthcare and health education to an area which otherwise would have no medical care at all. Now six months after the opening of the clinic much vital work has already been achieved with 2073 people attending.
Mebu is a remote village in the Dolakha region of Nepal - it has no healthcare. Since February talks have been underway with the Nestling Trust and the District Health Officer, to support a health project to be piloted here - the villagers wait and wonder if it really can be true!
Flying high! Following meetings with the District Health Officer, Dolakha, NGO's SITARA and Hurounda, the Community Development Officer and Nestling Trust directors Subash, Bijen and Susan the pilot healthcare initiative for the remote village of Mebu has been agreed.
Special thanks to Subash Siwakoti director of the Nestling Trust who identified the village, has liaised with the government health office and other bodies. as well as organising our visit here. It has been such a worthwhile trip. |
