Health Care Initiatives
Overview
The Nestling Trust (TNT) is working with the Nepal government, to help provide basic healthcare and health education for those families living in the remote areas of Nepal where thousands live in mountainous, rugged terrain, and where no medical facility exists. Those in need of even the most basic healthcare have to trek sometimes for days. Those seriously ill, maybe carried in baskets or stretchers along treacherous mountain tracks and the delay in reaching help can have tragic consequences.
In April 2014 TNT established their first health clinic at Marbu a remote village in Dolakha, in collaboration with the District Health Office in Cherikot. It serves a population of approximately six thousand people. Since then, in response to an urgent appeal following the earthquake, by the District Health Officer for Dolakha, TNT has funded the building of a further three health posts, at Lapilang, Bhirkot and Chilankha, remote villages in areas that suffered massive devastation.
TNT's fifth Health Post at Melung, also in the Dolakha region has just been completed. It was inaugurated on 14th October 2019 by the Member of Parliament
Each Health Post serves an approximate population of between five to six thousand people, and provides Health education on a daily basis within the clinic, and works with teachers in local schools to raise awareness of important issues such as hygiene, the dangers of smoking, drugs and alcohol etc. For the first time villagers have access to antenatal and post natal care, immunisation, contraception, acute and chronic illness management, wound management, palliative care, blood pressure monitoring, counselling, family planning etc. within their own locality.
